An important deadline is approaching for Hungarian employers: the minimum wage increase compensation support can be applied for until July 31. This program was established as a result of negotiations between the government and social partners to help employers manage the additional costs caused by the wage increase.
The amount of the support is 37,459 forints per employee per year in 2025, which allows for the delayed payment of social contribution tax. Under the “Support for social contribution tax related to the minimum wage increase” program, employers can access the support through a simplified electronic procedure.
There is an ambitious wage strategy in the background: based on the 3-year wage agreement concluded in 2024, the minimum wage will undergo a significant increase. It will increase to HUF 290,800 (+9%) in 2025, HUF 328,600 (+13%) in 2026, and HUF 374,600 (+14%) in 2027. Overall, this represents a 40 percent increase by 2027.
This wage increase schedule is in line with the government’s economic policy goals, according to which Hungarian economic resources are directed to supporting domestic families and businesses. The compensation subsidy helps employers to gradually adapt to wage increases without jeopardizing employment.
The subsidy is applied for through the Hungarian State Treasury interface, and it is important that employers do not miss this opportunity, as there will be no more opportunities to apply after the deadline.
